Interpersonal Skills and Self Development

What to “think” when you are not “thinking”?

I believe that most of us in these modern days can't stop thinking! Thinking and thinking and thinking... We think of what happened yesterday and what will happen tomorrow. But, is it possible to stop thinking? I wish sometimes to have a button of PAUSE and RELAX, but there is no such option. Yes, thinking is good. But TOO much thinking brings you craziness (in my beliefs). We need to avoid over thinking by following the below simple tips:

  • Focus on what's happening at the moment. Sometimes, we miss a lot of lovely things around us, because of getting our minds busy with un-needed things.
  • Enjoy beautiful and simple things around you. Live the moment. If you are at a party, forget about your work tomorrow and enjoy it. Always try to do something extraordinary in your free time that will have a positive impact on your mood.
  • Be grateful for what you have. Stop comparing yourself to others or scrolling pictures on social media to watch other people’s lives.
  • Do some activities you like in order to shut down your thinking process, e.g. meditation, dancing, listening to music or simply watching a non- horror movie.
  • Put things in the right perspective. When your thoughts are negative and you are worrying too much, ask yourself how much will it matter in the future. We usually make things bigger and more negative than they actually are.
  • Think of your life dreams. Think of building your plan to achieve them. Live your dreams to get energized.
  • Be happy. Think of a song that makes you remember your childhood. Think of the people you love. Think of doing something nice for the people around you.

It is easy to write and read about the above tips, but following them needs practice and training. Just focus on one tip at a time.

Start now! Good luck!

P.S. I will start too as I am also bad in OVER thinking.
